Paul specializes in patent preparation and prosecution in electrical, mechanical, and computer technologies. Paul also has experience drafting infringement, validity, patentability, and right-to-use opinions. Paul’s experience further includes providing counsel on licensing, negotiation and redesign issues, conducting patent due diligence studies in corporate mergers and acquisitions, as well as providing support in patent litigation matters.
Paul has worked in the patent field since 1992, starting as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). At the USPTO, Paul examined U.S. and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications encompassing a variety of telephonic communications systems and technologies, including repeaters, supervisory and control line signaling, line equalization circuits, subscriber line interface circuitry, and call signal generating.
Prior to joining the firm, Paul spent over 20 years in the private sector at two major U.S. law firms focusing his practice on patent law in their Washington, DC offices. Paul also spent some time in the Tokyo office of one of these firms. Paul enjoys continuing to return to Japan and conducting in-person client meetings there.

Prior to his legal career, Paul was employed as an electrical engineer by National Semiconductor Corporation, where his representative technology included Bi-CMOS integrated circuitry.
