ZYRTEC® Goes Mainstream

UCB Pharmaceuticals invented a heterocyclic compound called Cetirizine, proven to be highly effective in the treatment of hay fever and allergies. Working with UCB, Wenderoth successfully obtained the U.S. patent for Cetirizine. Marketed as ZYRTEC®, in 2008 it was the highest-growing new non-food product in the U.S., generating sales of $315.9 million. Today, it is sold worldwide as mainstream over-the-counter allergy medicine.
